Why was the EUDR introduced?
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), an estimated 420 million hectares of forest were lost through conversion to other land uses between 1990 and 2020 – an area larger than the European Union. Global deforestation remains a major environmental challenge. As the EU is one of the world’s largest consumers of raw materials, it has introduced rules to limit its contribution to global deforestation and forest degradation. The EUDR therefore regulates the placing on the EU market and the export from the EU of relevant commodities and products associated with these environmental impacts. To achieve this, the EUDR repeals and replaces the EU Timber Regulation and extends the regulatory framework to cover additional commodities and derived products such as cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood, as well as certain products derived from them. The Regulation therefore addresses both the legality of production and the deforestation-free status of the relevant commodities and products.
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) aims to reduce the impact of products consumed in the EU on the world’s forests and wooded areas, ultimately reducing greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity loss.

We take our responsibility to minimise our environmental impact seriously and are committed to promoting responsible forestry practices. We support the EUDR’s objectives of improving traceability and reducing the risk that relevant products contribute to deforestation or forest degradation.
Policy for Forests and Natural Ecosystems – MM Group
Wood Chain-of-Custody certifications verify that certified material is identified and kept separate from ineligible or unacceptable materials throughout the supply chain, from the forest to the market. Chain-of-custody certification supports traceability but does not replace the due diligence obligations required under the EUDR.
